The Criminal Law Section is looking for an innovative, creative and inspiring assistant professor in the field of international criminal law.

 

What are you going to do?

 

Your core tasks in this position are to teach and develop education in the field of international criminal law, to conduct research and to fulfil administrative tasks.

 

Within and in addition to these core tasks, as an assistant professor you will join us and take on a pivotal role in the LLM master program in International Criminal Law. As part of this dynamic position, you'll oversee LLM theses within the realm of international criminal law. Additionally, you'll be tasked with coordinating courses in international and comparative criminal law, including delivering lectures and seminars.

 

Beyond teaching responsibilities, you'll handle various administrative and organizational duties for the department, section, and faculty. This may involve participation in program committees, examination committees, and more. Furthermore, you'll conduct and publish high-quality research in the field of international criminal law, contributing valuable insights to the academic community.

 

Looking ahead, you'll play a vital role in mentoring and supporting young researchers and PhD candidates, ensuring their growth and success in the field. Join us in shaping the future of international criminal law and making a lasting impact on legal scholarship.

 

What do we require?

 

For this position of assistant professor, we are looking for an international criminal lawyer with, preferably, several years of relevant experience and who fits the following profile:

  • You have a PhD in the field of international criminal law -or adjacent fields of law- or are at least in the final stages of completing the doctoral dissertation;

  • You are a creative and innovative researcher in the field of international criminal law, and you have the potential to successfully apply for external funding;

  • You have demonstrable experience in developing and delivering innovative activating university education;

  • You have the Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO) or you are willing to obtain this qualification;

  • You have strong organisational skills and you are a team player;

  • You are proactive, flexible and results-oriented;

  • You can express yourself both written and verbally fluently in English;

  • If you have broad didactic knowledge and skills and experience with an educational organization, this is an asset.

 

Our offer

 

We offer you a position as an assistant professor within the Criminal Law Department at the UvA. A varied and challenging job in an ambitious organisation. The candidate will be offered an assistant professor position for the duration of 18 months, with a view to permanent employment.

 

The salary amounts to a minimum of € 4,332 and a maximum of € 5,929 gross per month (salary scale 11, CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten) based on full-time employment (38 hours). The UvA also offers extensive secondary employment benefits, including 8% vacation pay and 8.3% year-end bonus. The CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten applies.

The Criminal Law Section is part of the Public Law Department and provides education and research in the field of national and international criminal law. The research profile of the members of the section is national, international, comparative and interdisciplinary in nature. Members of the section teach in the bachelor's program Dutch Law, in the master's program Public Law, track Criminal Law, in the master's program International Criminal Law, and in criminal law courses in the English language bachelor programs of Amsterdam University College (AUC) and Politics, Psychology, Law and Economics (PPLE). The research of the members of the criminal law section is part of the Amsterdam Center for Criminal Justice (ACCJ) and in case of ICL research also of the Amsterdam Center for International Law (ACIL).
