The University of Amsterdam invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions in accounting. Successful candidates will work as Assistant Professor at the Accounting section of the Amsterdam Business School (ABS). Candidates with research and teaching interests in all areas of accounting (including accounting information systems, auditing, financial accounting and management accounting) will be considered, with preference given to those focusing on data science or novel technologies in accounting.  The starting date will be 1 September 2023.

 

What are you going to do

 

The job entails a six-year tenure-track position. Conditional on meeting the tenure-track criteria, the school will offer a tenured position as Associate Professor. Candidates should have a PhD or expect to complete a PhD in the near future and should demonstrate potential for outstanding achievements in research and teaching.

 

All applicants are expected to teach in English. The teaching load is moderate. The compensation package is competitive relative to European salaries and includes several additional benefits (such as a pension plan that is partially funded by the university). Favorable tax agreements apply to most non-Dutch applicants.

 

What do we require

 

You hold a PhD in Accounting or are close to completing your PhD. We are welcoming candidates with research and teaching interests in all areas of accounting. We will evaluate candidates on their potential for and/or record of excellence in research and teaching. Successful candidates will work as Assistant Professor at the Accounting section of the Amsterdam Business School (ABS). Candidates with research and teaching interests in all areas of accounting (including accounting information systems, auditing, financial accounting, and management accounting) will be considered with a light preference for those focusing on data science or novel technologies in accounting. The starting date will be 1 September 2023.

 

Our offer

 

For the Assistant Professor level, the selected candidate will be offered a six-year tenure track position as Assistant Professor. Upon meeting the criteria for tenure as judged by the ABS Promotion and Tenure committee, a permanent contract as Associate Professor will be offered. The gross monthly salary during the first three years will be, depending on experience, between €3,974 and €5,439 (salary scale 11) based on 38 hours per week (+ 16.3% holiday and end-year payments). After a positive evaluation the maximum will become €6,181 (salary scale 12).

 

For the Advanced Assistant Professor level, the selected candidate will be offered a three-year tenure-track position as Advanced Assistant Professor. Upon meeting the criteria for tenure, a permanent contract as Associate Professor is offered.  Depending on experience, the gross monthly salary will be between €4.814 and €6.181 (salary scale 12) based on 38 hours per week (+ 16.3% holiday and end-year payments).

 

This is based on 38 hours per week and in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, regulating employment conditions at Dutch universities. A substantial reduction in income tax (equal to 30% of taxable salary) may apply to non-Dutch candidates for the first few years of employment (subject to tax law). The UvA offers a very attractive pension scheme.

 

A temporary reduction in income tax (equal to 30% of taxable salary) may apply to non-Dutch candidates. The Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) for Dutch Universities is applicable.

The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at the UvA provides academic courses for more than 7,000 students in Economics, Business, Actuarial Science, Econometrics, and a variety of courses in the Executive Master’s programs. The faculty also conducts research programs in many specialist areas and employs about 400 people. The FEB has an internationally acclaimed profile and is located in the heart of Amsterdam.
