Lecturer in Entrepreneurship and Innovation
The Entrepreneurship & Innovation Section (E&I) at Amsterdam Business School (ABS) from the University of Amsterdam (UvA) is an internationally recognized department with a strong focus on high-quality academic teaching, research, and impact. ABS is a growing, research driven business school at an internationally recognized university that has the ambition to become a leading international player in the field of business research and education. ABS is located in the heart of Amsterdam, the cultural and financial capital of the Netherlands, offering a cosmopolitan living environment with excellent connections to the world. E&I Section’s main strengths in teaching, research, and impact are entrepreneurship, innovation management, creative & cultural industries, and advanced computational methods, together with our ties to the (entrepreneurial and cultural)Amsterdam. We combine teaching and research excellence with deep engagement in the entrepreneurial ecosystem and beyond. Our Section houses over 25 scholars, from junior (tenure track) to leading senior researchers, as well as PhD candidates. Faculty members regularly publish in top entrepreneurship, innovation, management, and psychology journals and present their work at top academic conferences every year. The section is very collegial and diverse, its scholars come from 14 different nationalities, with wide range of backgrounds. The section’s education portfolio is based on two interrelated management challenges: creating and growing new ventures, as well as realizing and capturing innovations. The relevance of the combination of entrepreneurship and innovation has become clear in topics such as startups, entrepreneurship psychology, technology (e.g., AI), open innovation, creative and cultural industries, management of creative teams, crowdfunding, the lean startup movement, scaling up new ventures, and corporate entrepreneurship. The section promotes a challenge-based, experiential learning environment to develop entrepreneurial mindsets and innovative leaders for the future.
E&I offers courses and programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and executive levels, such as:
- Bachelor Business Administration – Track Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Creativity.
- Minor Entrepreneurship (University-wide Bachelor’s program).
- Master Business Administration – Track Entrepreneurship & Management in the Creative Industries.
- Master Business Administration – Track Entrepreneurship & Innovation.
The section also offers a joint Master’s in Entrepreneurship in a collaboration between the University of Amsterdam and VU University Amsterdam.

Excellent candidates from all major entrepreneurship and/or innovation areas are welcome. We are looking for individuals with potential for exceptional teaching performance and broad interests in entrepreneurship and/or innovation. The main tasks of the candidates are teaching, thesis supervision and teaching coordination in the (under)graduate and master education programs. We are particularly interested in candidates who can strengthen our team in the field of applied entrepreneurship education (e.g., incubator or accelerator coaching and teaching) or technology/data science (e.g., transformative AI) in the areas of entrepreneurship and innovation. The teaching load is reasonable and can be concentrated both in terms of time and preparation. The working language, including teaching, is English or Dutch.
What do we require
We will prioritize candidates that hold a Ph.D. (completed or near completion, in Business Administration of Economics, with more than three years of teaching Entrepeneurship and Innovation at universities: Dutch of abroad. However, we will consider candidates with more than five years of teaching experience in high-education programs in entrepreneurship and/or innovation, without a Ph.D.
Dutch language skills at the level required for teaching in Dutch are also necessary. However, in certain instances, we may also consider applicants who are fluent in English but not (yet) in Dutch.
Our offer
The lecturer will be offered initially an appointment for one year with extension. Salary will be in accordance with Dutch academic salary scales. For a lecturer this is between € 3,345 to € 6,148 per month (+16.3% holiday and end-year payments) dependent on experience and track record of the candidate. A temporary reduction in income tax (equal to 30% of taxable salary) may apply to non-Dutch candidates. The Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) for Dutch Universities is applicable. Additionally, some research time may be offered each year to the candidate.
