Research Assistant: project Resilient Cultures – Music, Art, and Cinema in Mainland China and Hong Kong

 

The Faculty of Humanities is looking for an enthusiastic and independent student-assistant for the ERC-funded research project Resilient Cultures – Music, Art, and Cinema in Mainland China and Hong Kong (RESCUE), led by main researcher Prof. Jeroen de Kloet. Dedicated to research on cultural resilience amid changing social, technological, and (geo)political contexts, the research team engages in innovative projects that address critical issues and contribute to scholarly discussion. What are you going to do?

 

As a research assistant, you will support the research team in conducting research, organizing workshops, and daily administrative tasks.

 

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Administrative
    • Help set up digital infrastructure for the project (e.g., Microsoft Teams, data storage, Zotero, etc.)
    • Support in filling administrative files and project reporting
    • Room booking (for meetings and seminars)
    • Arranging catering
  • Organizational
    • Helping (mostly remotely) with the organization of workshops (approx. 11 in total, the first one in this Nov)
    • Generate promotional materials
    • Bookings and communication with guests
    • Arranging catering
  • Research-related
    • Research support, for example, literature research, objects mapping, translation, text-editing
    • Transcribing interviews
    • Support in podcast productions of the team

 

What do you have to offer?

 

You are passionate about media and cultural studies, with strong analytical skills. You are able to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with good communication skills. Interest in Asian popular culture would be a plus, but not necessary.

 

Your experience and profile:

  • A completed or ongoing Master's degree in the Humanities or Social Sciences in a field relevant to the project;
  • Have knowledge and experience in research related to popular culture, contemporary art, or digital media;
  • Have experience in doing literature research and writing literature reviews, with an interest in the research fields central to the project: media and cultural studies, platformization studies, inter-Asia cultural studies, China studies, and Hong Kong studies;
  • Team spirit and experience working in an interdisciplinary, international setting;
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills.

 

What can we offer you?

 

We offer a temporary employment contract for a period of 12 months with a probationary period of two months. The employment contract is for 8 hours a week (0.2 fte). The preferred starting date is 14 October 2024.

 

Your salary, depending on your study year, ranges between € 2,715 (second and third study year) to € 2,951 (fourth study year) gross per month on the basis of a full working week of 38 hours. This sum does not include the 8% holiday allowance and the 8,3% year-end allowance. The Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities is applicable.
