Are you interested in state-of-the art data analysis within cognitive biology and neuroscience? Do you enjoy setting up and teaching practicals for motivated master students in small-scale classes? Are you ready to take on the challenge of interdisciplinary teaching? The teaching position in Cognitive Data Science may be for you.

 

What are you going to do?

 

You will contribute to teaching activities in the course “Cognitive Data Science”, that is organized within the MSc Brain and Cognitive Sciences.

 

Tasks and responsibilities
Specifically you will:

  • develop of computer practicals and assignments;
  • support students during computer practicals;
  • contribute to the assessment of students' performance in the computer practicals and assignments;
  • work in a larger team of teachers and researchers who have been designing the course.

 

Your profile

 

Your experience and profile:

  • A master’s degree or PhD in a field related to neurobiology, cognitive biology, bioinformatics or related field;
  • Expertise with programming in Python and in the use of common libraries for data science and related programming tools (Jupyter notebooks, Git, IDEs such as VS Code);
  • Expertise in the analysis of biological data (preferably gene expression data and/or neural data);
  • Demonstrable teaching experience;
  • Preferably expertise in the use of machine learning techniques for pattern recognition, such as dimensionality reduction, clustering, and classification.

 

Our offer

 

We offer a temporary employment contract for 6 hours per week for a period of 2.5 months. The preferred starting date is 21 October 2024.

 

The gross monthly salary, based on 38 hours per week and dependent on relevant experience, ranges between € 2,960 to € 4,670 (scale 10). UvA additionally offers an extensive package of secondary benefits, including 8% holiday allowance and a year-end bonus of 8.3%. The UFO profile Skills Teacher 2 is applicable. For this position we can not sponsor a visa. The Collective Labour Agreement of Universities of the Netherlands is applicable.
